Training & Development
This guide explains how to apply for training and professional development opportunities at KBR Infrastructure Solutions Australia. Before attending any funded training or professional development, you must complete and submit a Training and Professional Development Request application.
When to submit an application
Section titled “When to submit an application”Submit a Training and Professional Development application when you identify a learning opportunity in one of the following categories:
- Training (internal or external)
- Conference attendance
- Study Assistance (higher education)
Before you apply
Section titled “Before you apply”Consider the full cost
Section titled “Consider the full cost”The company pays for both direct expenses and your time. Consider ways to reduce costs:
- Book time to leave instead of overhead where appropriate
- Complete training in your own time if feasible
- Use agile accrual time
- Choose local options that don’t require travel
Demonstrate business benefit
Section titled “Demonstrate business benefit”Your application must show how the training benefits the business. Strong justifications include:
- Technical skills required for an upcoming project
- Networking opportunities that support business objectives
- Alignment with your annual performance goals
- Skills that address identified capability gaps
How to submit your application
Section titled “How to submit your application”- Access the Training Application Portal.
- Complete the Training and Professional Development Request form with:
- Training category (training, conference, or study assistance)
- Estimated costs for the activity
- Time required (in hours or days)
- Business justification
- Submit the application to initiate the approval workflow.
Approval process
Section titled “Approval process”The approval workflow varies depending on your Line of Business and the Area of Learning selected.
Standard approvals
Section titled “Standard approvals”All applications require approval from:
- Your Line Manager
- Funding Manager (either your Home Cost Centre Manager or Project Manager if costs are charged to a project)
Additional approvals required
Section titled “Additional approvals required”Additional reviews are triggered when:
- The Area of Learning is technical—the Chief Engineer and CTE team will review from a technical perspective
- The expenditure exceeds A$4,000 for a single application—a member of the Senior Leadership Team in your portfolio will review
After approval
Section titled “After approval”Once you receive formal written approval from the Funding Manager, you can proceed with booking and payment using one of three options:
- Pay upfront and claim reimbursement
- Use a Purchase Card (Pcard)
- Arrange a Purchase Order (required if the value exceeds A$4,000)
Study Assistance
Section titled “Study Assistance”Study Assistance is a separate funding initiative for structured, long-term learning that leads to formal qualifications from recognised educational institutions or professional societies. This program supports upskilling in targeted areas of professional growth that deliver enhanced value to your role and contribute to KBR’s commercial proposition.
